Movie Review - Black Hawk Down

Trailer
Actual Movie
(14 Parts)

Plot
(Sources: Wikipedia)
In a raid, a task force of Delta Force soldiers, Army Rangers, and Special Operations Aviation Regiment attempt capturing two of Aidid's senior subordinates in the Bakaara Market neighborhood of Mogadishu. The mission was led by Maj Gen William Garrison, and was supposed to take no more than 1 hour. The extraction by the Delta team is successful, but the Somali militia, armed with RPGs, shoot down two Black Hawk helicopters, and the resulting rescue extends the mission to over 15 hours.
The film follows many characters through build-up, the assault and rescue. It shows how Staff Sergean Matt Eversmann was placed in charge of Ranger Chalk Four, before portraying the raid and successful extraction of the wanted persons, and shows the first injury, as PFC Todd Blackburn falls from a helicopter as it maneuvers to avoid an RPG. This is the beginning of the indication that the troops are overwhelmed by the volume of enemy militia, and builds up to the two helicopter crashes: Super Six-One piloted by Cliff "Elvis" Wolcott, and Super Six-Four piloted by Mike Durant. Durant is taken prisoner after the two Delta snipers who requested to be inserted near the crash site of Super Six-Four are killed while defending him.
The film also follows two Chalk Four machine gunners who are supposed to return with the extraction team, but miss the humvees as they leave, and get lost. One of them is deafened by machine-gun fire, but they eventually make their way back to Eversmann. Cpl Jamie Smith attempts to rescue one of them, whose backpack full of ammo has been shot and exploded, but Smith gets shot too, and eventually bleeds to death.
The film begins to reach its conclusion as the U.S. forces regain control with strafing runs by Little Bird helicopters, and a convoy of troops from the 10th Mountain Division arrive to extract the wounded. Back at the base, Norman "Hoot" Hooten begins to restock on ammunition, preparing to go back out on the next mission, and Eversmann tells a dead Jamie Smith that he will fulfill his dying wish.
The film ends with text informing the viewer that 19 Americans and approximately 1000 Somalis died in the conflict, Mike Durant's release, and about the death of Mohamed Farrah Aidid in 1996.
Journal Reflections-:
Why did I choose to participate in this activity?
I basically like movie and I see it as a way to "de-stress" myself.
What got me started? / How I got started?
Hmm... By default, I myself already like to watch movies.. But to be exact, it is because my friends' influence. ( watching movies regularly is very expensive !!!)
What did I hope to learn or archieve from it?
Movies are fiction. What we, as the audience (third party) sees from the movie enable us to learn and understand how the characters in the movies think and feel. Subconciously, we learn and improve on our current knowledge of understanding other people (empathy) , be it a friend or a stranger. Thus, developing better communication skills that will never be found and learnt on usual textbook.
However, for this particular movie, it is an extract from a real event.
What I enjoy about the activity and why?
The theater environment. Most of all, the comfortable seat. ^.^V
Actually is because since movies are fiction, it usually contain the "adventure" that is not in our usual lifestyle and this is why i enjoy catching movie a lot.
What did I learn from it?
To empathy and better communication with others.
Teamwork is very important.
What challanges did I encounter?
Raising fund for the next movie(DVD for this instance) ....-.-"
An available time slot.
I miss the movie release and have to wait for 2 years for the DVD release. T.T
Although I have already seen it on youtube.
How were these challanges eventually overcome?
Set aside some coins daily...Fixed time..
Every first or last month of wednesday to catch the movies.Book the tickets through AXS machine earlier to avoid "sold-out" of tickets.
Have to scout for the DVD in VCDs/DVDs shop.
What mattered most and why?
The types of movie that is suited to my preference. Afterall, I use my savings to catch the movie, so I can choose! xD
What do the failures or sucesses mean?
Not able to catch the movie? I can wait for youtube or VCD release..xD
And I have done it!
Failure = No cinema = watch on youtube = low quality
Sucess = watch on DVDs = high quality
=p
What life lessons have I learned?
Always be early in everything you do.. in my case.. if i am slow, i might not be able to catch my movie.
Understanding (Empathy) and communicating with people better.
Catch the movies during weekdays 12noon -5pm, there's student price! xD
Maybe wait for the VCD/DVD release of the movie so I can watch anytime, anywhere, at my own pace again and again?
How the experience will affect my future?
In everything I do, bear the conquences and care for one another. Leave no man behind!
Have I become a better / stronger person? In what ways?
Umm.. yep.. sometimes have to learn form the movie even its fiction..
In time of crisis, face up to the problem, hiding won't get you anywhere.
Since this movie is base on an actual event, if they can do it, so can I.
Personal Add-ons:
From this movie, Black Hawk Down, I learnt that to carry out a certain plan sucessfully in whatever I do, teamwork is very important. We have to trust one another rather than doubting their ability. Also, this movie shows the care, concern and sacrifices display by the soldiers for one another, an act of bravery that one should learn and respect from.
